Pocket Books are a MUST HAVE for clinical rotation year! I always have these on hand because carrying around your board study book, Pance Prep Pearls, or USMLE Step is not always feasible. Pocket books allow us students to stay prepared for the unknown - which will always pop up even when we’re out of school! Here are my three favorites:
Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopeia
Tarascon’s is a GOLDMINE for all things drugs and dosing! It is organized by body system (Cardiology, Gastroenterology, etc) and is then further organized by the class of drugs (ACE inhibitors, Proton Pump Inhibitors, etc). Listed next to the drug dosing options and instructions. At the end are dollar signs that indicate how expensive or inexpensive the drugs are to consider for our patients! This is definitely my number one used pocket book, I recommend it for everyone! You can find it here on my amazon page!
The Pocket Medicine books are some of tried and true pocket books in the medical field. There are many different subsets like Emergency Medicine, Primary Care, Psychiatry, OBGYN, Neurology and more! I love that these are tailored to the specialty. You can also find these on my amazon page!
EMRA Antibiotic Guide
The EMRA Antibiotic Guide is one that was recommended to me for solely antibiotic help! Antibiotics can be TOUGH to discern at the beginning stages of learning. This pocket book is a huge help to anyone, especially if you’re practicing in a broad area like Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine!
You guys can find all of my favorite pocket books to purchase through my amazon page! Happy learning!
